An Open Letter to Jack Graham,
Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church
It is with a sad heart that I must write this letter today. As a fellow Pastor in the Great State of Texas, I was part of the testimony of a large group of people in support of House Bill 896 that would abolish abortion in this State. Now that bill has been left pending in committee with Chairman Jeff Leach stating he would not bring it to a vote.
Seeking moral authority, he has stated “My pastor and friend, Jack Graham, the pastor of Prestonwood and former SBC Baptist president, is strongly in support of my position…”. Confirming that position, you posted on twitter “I support @leachfortexas 1000 percent. He is a caring and courageous congressman who is leading Texas citizens with grace and truth,”.
It is because of this that I am both saddened and angry. You have used the power of the pulpit and your influence as one who is supposed to speak for the LORD to effectively endorse the murder of another 55,000 children in Texas in the next year and 110,000 over the coming two years before our legislature meets again.
“Why do you despise the Word of the Lord to do what is evil in His sight?” (2 Samuel 12:9a). Scripture commands “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). Do you not know the scriptures? The word for murder also denotes the causing of human death through carelessness or negligence. Should HB 896 die in committee, it will be with your approval, and both yourself and chairman Leach will be held accountable before God.
“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
(Deuteronomy 29:29 ESV)
“Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”
(Luke 12:48 ESV)
Because you are not ignorant of the Word of God, you are held more accountable for your actions. You have been given much influence through the pulpit and your leadership in the Southern Baptist Convention. Much will be required from you as you stand before the Lord. Your endorsement of the shelving of HB 896 is essentially authorizing the deaths of approximately 110,000 pre-born children in this State, and you will be held accountable before God for those deaths.
As a fellow pastor and as someone who desires to see the greatest holocaust in the history of the world ended, I rebuke you! Mercy and Compassion demand laws that PREVENT murder by exacting equal justice for all. If there is no justice, there is no reason to cease evil acts. Because you have endorsed this position, you have removed justice from the equation thereby giving sinful men and women no reason to discontinue the act of murder.
I implore you to repent of this action and to DEMAND with all the authority that God has given you that abortion
Repent in the name of the LORD!
Soli Deo Gloria,
Pastor of Preaching
