Should We Chalk Up Another One for the Anti-Marriage Crowd?

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford is beginning to take on the look of a punching bag in the press these days (until he was rescued by the news of Michael Jackson’s death).  After going A.W.O.L. over Father’s Day weekend, it was discovered that the Sanford was actually in Argentina with his mistress.  Though it sounds like something from a James Bond movie (the governor being tracked via cell phone pings... his aids telling security to stop tracking him), the unfortunate reality is that this is an all-too-familiar tale of boy meets girl... boy marries girl ...

Top Five Reasons Not to Send Your Kids Back to Govt. School

Anyone who has kept up with my blog knows that I am no fan of government education.  I have made it a point to carry The Continuing Collapse on a regular basis, and I try to make biblical, philosophical and theological arguments in favor of Christian education as often as possible.  However, I recognize the obstacles those of us on my side of the street face.  As many as eighty-five to ninety percent of professing Christians send their children to the government for their education.  That is simply an astonishing figure considering the fact that the Christian community fought mandatory ...

Where Are All the Healthy Churches?

As I have the privilege of teaching at homeschool conferences around the country (California, Iowa, and Virginia to name a few), I have had the privilege of talking to hundreds of families.  For the most part, these conversations have been very encouraging.  However, there is one thing I’ve learned that is not encouraging at all.  Many believers out there who have committed their lives to home discipleship are desperate to find a healthy church that shares, nurtures, and teaches their doctrinal convictions.  In conversation after conversation people ask me (a total stranger who in some cases has never even ...

The Continuing Collapse: June 2009

by Dr. Bruce Shortt   WELCOME TO THE CONTINUING COLLAPSE!  Exposing Government Schools: The Youth Ministry of the State Church of Secular Humanism   June, Anno Domini 2009   "Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies." (Groucho Marx)   Here richly, with ridiculous display, The Politician's corpse was laid away. While all of his acquaintance sneered and slangedI wept: for I had longed to see him hanged.  (Hilaire Belloc)    The Continuing Collapse again returns with news about that criminal conspiracy against our children, families, churches, culture, and country known fondly to many ...

Is An Economic Downturn A Good Reason to Stop Having Kids?

The news has not been encouraging lately.  Between job losses, bankruptcies, and government takeovers, it is hard to be optimistic about the future from a financial standpoint.  Even China appears more capitalistic than America these days (see here). As a result, many Americans are making very hard choices.  There are even commercials on television depicting families sitting around the dinner table talking about difficult decisions they must make and dreams they must defer.  My family and I have had similar discussions as I have had a few events cancelled on account of “the economy”.  Things are indeed tough.        One of ...

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2009

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20 ESV)       As I have noted elsewhere, President Obama is committed to a radical pro-homosexual agenda.  Since day one of his administration, he has made no secret of his intent to move the ball forward on the full acceptance of homosexuality and the criminalization of all disapproval thereof.  Just this week he appointed the founder of GLSEN to a post in the Department of Education.  Then, in another brazen act ...
