USA Today Misses the Mark on Homeschool Trends

As a homeschool father, I am weary of fielding the same old questions by those who don’t understand my educational choice.  Sometimes I feel like carrying signs that read, “Yes, one of us has an education degree” (and no that is neither required, nor is it necessarily beneficial).  “No, we don’t worry about our kids being able to get into college” (many colleges actually prefer and recruit homeschoolers).  And if I hear one more person ask me about socialization I just may throw up!  Virtually all of these harmless questions come from other Christians.  However, there is a ...

The Continuing Collapse: May 2009

WELCOME TO THE CONTINUING COLLAPSE!   "Doing the Education Research that Illegal Aliens Won't Do  Since 1997"     May, Anno Domini 2009     "Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies." (Groucho Marx)   After a brief hiatus, The Continuing Collapse again returns to your mailbox. This edition will be short, but it is the bearer of some good news.   EVIDENCE THAT THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION IS BEGINNING TO TURN TOWARD CHRISTIAN EDUCATION         A few years ago, The Continuing Collapse, in league with a select group of unindicted co-conspirators, decided to beleaguer the ...

No Time For Childhood

A recent New York Times article made my skin crawl as it exposed the ugly reality that is modern American early education.  The innocence and gaiety that once characterized early childhood has been replaced with an Orwellian nightmare of factory-like systems designed to mold little human beings into mindless cogs in the statist machine.    When I was a child, in the increasingly olden days, kindergarten was a place to play. We danced the hokeypokey, swooned in suspense over Duck, Duck, Gray Duck (that’s what Minnesotans stubbornly call Duck, Duck, Goose) and napped on our mats until the Wake-Up ...

Thank God for Honest Roman Catholic Apologists

A dear friend of mine sent me a link to an amazing website called pugio fidei.  In the article to which he linked, the authors offered some astonishing advice to Catholics defending their faith against Protestants (and Calvinists in particular).  Among the more eye-opening admissions in their post is a reference to eternal security.  They write:   17. Never ask, if a Protestant believes his salvation is eternally secure, what motivation he has to do good and avoid evil. The answer is obvious (and embarrassing to the Catholic who asked the question): the love of God. The love of God is ...

Catch Voddie Baucham Messages on Sermon Audio

The folks over at sermonaudio have been very gracious to me.  They contacted me a few months ago about the possibility of posting my messages on their site.  I was honored, intrigued, and way too busy.  However, I have since found time and help (thanks to the media team at GFBC and the folks at Monergism), and have put several messages on the site.  Those of you who have been bugging me about putting more messages out there can GET OFF MY BACK ALREADY!  I’ll see how the downloads go and keep up as best I can.    Those of ...

It’s Official: Judah Benjamin Baucham Has Been Adopted

Praise God!  We finalized Judah’s adoption on Friday.  He is ‘officially’ a Baucham.  It is amazing to think about the myriad ways in which Judah’s journey resembles our own.  We have also been adopted into God’s family.  There was a legal decree (justification), followed by entrance into the family (adoption), conformity to the family (sanctification), and ultimately a full realization of our inheritance (glorification).  God, in his providence, has sent us another son, and we couldn’t be happier.   VB

The First “100 Days of Change for the Family”

FRC has put together a great video on the impact Mr. Obama’s radical, neo-Marxist social agenda has had on American families in the first one hundred days of his administration.  From abortion to fetal stem cell research to outrageous spending, American families have definitely been impacted by the “Hope and Change” regime.  Unfortunately, with universal healthcare looming on the horizon, the worst is yet to come.   VB
